Before you rush out and choose packets in lime, raspberry and lemon, hold up. Jello skin has nothing to do with the kid’s party non-vegan staple. Read on to find out everything you need to know about the jello skin TikTok trend and how you can achieve the look naturally and in a vegan-friendly way!
What is jello skin?
Jello skin is taking the beauty world by storm as a viral TikTok trend. A video by Ava Lee ranked up millions of views talking about achieving flawless bouncy skin with the bounce-back firmness of a perfect dish of jello. In the video, Ava Lee is getting a facial and her beautician pinches her skin and announces, “It’s firm. It’s like the perfect consistency of Jell-O.”
It’s the latest need-to-know trend, showing ‘cloud skin’, ‘glazed doughnut skin’ and ‘glass skin’ the door. The idea is that jello skin reveals beautifully healthy natural skin with the optimal level of collagen present to give it the firm but supple texture you want for a flawless complexion.
It’s not some new found diet fad – it’s all about achieving plump bouncy skin. This comes from having plenty of the skin’s natural protein: collagen. Collagen is essential to healthy skin and many skincare products aim to bolster your collagen levels and boost it so that your skin can be wonderfully elastic, but still firm.
From our point of view, the concept of jello skin goes beyond other trends because it’s talking about something which is a little deeper than just the way you look or having a certain complexion. It’s not just about appearance, but about the health of your skin – which in turn gives a firmer look.
How to get jello skin
A collagen supporting skincare routine, that would ultimately help achieve jello skin, is a good type of routine to aim for anyway. It’s a way to get gorgeous glowy skin that is also kept healthy for the future. But, as Ava Lee says, “Jello skin is so much more than how your skin looks. There isn’t one product that will help you get it; it’s a whole lifestyle.”
There are some trials that show that adding collagen to your diet can improve your skin health. Ava Lee talks about doing this by consuming bone broth, or there are also collagen boosting supplements, including marine collagen – but neither of these options are vegan.
Luckily, there are alternative ways for vegans to boost collagen in their diet, including mushrooms, berries, kale, papaya, almonds, pumpkin seeds and even carrots. Ava Lee leans towards her anti-inflammatory tea based on traditional Chinese medicine which includes black fungus mushrooms, dates, goji berries and apples.
Other techniques recommended to achieve jello skin include gua sha. This is a practice of gently scraping the skin with a smooth stone to promote circulation. The smooth gua sha tool can become a pampering and welcome part of your skincare routine. It aids lymphatic drainage and naturally boosts collagen. We will soon be launching our very own gua sha tool, so watch this space!
Hydration is then the number one focus of your skincare products for jello skin, as well as ingredients known to support collagen production and protection. This will help to give the jello skin look while also ensuring skin health from within.
Skincare products with core ingredients including hyaluronic acid, retinol and vitamin C are just some of the collagen-friendly products to look for. Anything that hydrates and nourishes the skin is useful. For example, UpCircle’s Face Serum with Coffee Oil helps boost collagen and keep skin firm as its rich in vitamin c and rosehip oils. Additionally, products which aid circulation also improve collagen production, which is why facial scrubs can be so helpful.

Our Cleansing Face Milk is the perfect everyday cleanser for all skin types as well as the ideal second cleanse if you're partial to double cleansing. Ava Lee advocates double-cleansing as a way to ensure that no makeup remains on your skin before you use other skincare.
Our gentle cleansing face milk is made with oat powder upcycled from the food and drink industry. When applied to the face this creamy oat powder repairs and restores the skin’s moisture barrier.
Pick products rich in hyaluronic acid
Hyaluronic acid is a fabulous skincare ingredient for hydration and achieving jello skin. It makes skin plumper and helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines.
At UpCircle, we have two products with hyaluronic acid that you should include in your jello skin skincare routine.
First is our Face Toner with Hyaluronic Acid. After cleansing your skin, you can use this hydrating toner to plump your skin and moisturize it in the process. It also contains chamomile to soothe and calm the skin. All in all, your skin will look and feel fresher and look brighter.
Secondly, pick our Eye Cream with Hyaluronic Acid and Coffee which has been dermatologically approved and contains hyaluronic acid for excellent hydration. This reduces the appearance of both fine lines and wrinkles, but also helps to combat any dark circles which you may have. Apply using our soothing eye roller tool for added relaxation and absorption.
Hyaluronic acid has a very instant effect on the skin; so for jello skin, it should be a go-to ingredient. Just make sure that you get into the habit of always using a moisturizer too.
Protect your skin from the sun
Lastly, Ava Lee promotes sunscreen to “preserve collagen and for anti-ageing”. The problem is that lots of sunscreens are chemical-laden concoctions that bring baddies along with sun protection.
Choose a natural sun cream, like our SPF 25 Mineral Sunscreen to protect your skin – and its collagen – from the sun, without compromising your principles or introducing artificial chemicals. Remember that your skin is wonderful, and there’s no such thing as ‘bad skin’. Give your skin the protection it needs to help protect you.
Jello skin may be a TikTok trend but there are some sound principles behind it. Fortunately, our skincare products were already working to these principles in a natural way! Take a look at our full range of natural skincare products.
