The ins and outs of preventative skin care

  • 4 min read

There was a time when people only started to look after their skin when they had a breakout or noticed their first wrinkles appearing – but those days are long gone. Now, people are more clued up on the importance of skincare and keeping the body’s largest organ healthy.

While in this blog we’ll be discussing preventative skin care for things such as acne and signs of ageing, that in no way means that these things are inherently negative.

Some people adopt a skin-positive attitude, while others adopt skin neutrality – but at UpCircle, we’re passionate about providing products to nourish your skin, whatever skin type you have. See unfiltered, textured and real skin on our Instagram

Best preventative skin care for your skin concerns

Whether you’re trying to prevent damage to your skin or not, using products that are both kind to your skin and to the planet is essential.

Skin care to prevent pimples and acne

Anyone who has struggled with acne or breakouts can attest how painful, uncomfortable and frankly annoying it can be. Using gentle products that won’t irritate your inflamed skin is essential when trying to look after acne-prone skin.

Skincare to prevent acne

Some of the best skin care ingredients to help prevent and clear acne are: niacinamide and salicylic acid.

Face Toner with Salicylic Acid

Our soothing Face Toner with Hyaluronic Acid is also formulated with salicylic acid to help clear pores, while keeping blackheads at bay.

Applied after cleansing the skin, this balancing face toner helps to revitalise and refresh the skin. Formulated with hyaluronic acid to plump the skin, glycerin to moisturise and brighten the skin, and chamomile to soothe the skin, this toner is ideal for acne-prone skin.

This face toner is made with the anti-inflammatory residual water of green mandarin fruit, a by-product of the juicing industry, and skin-soothing chamomile stem extract, a by-product of the tea industry.

Night Cream with Niacinamide and Hyaluronic Acid

Niacinamide is the scientific name for the vitamin B3 – an essential nutrient for your skin, helping to nourish the complexion, build proteins in the skin, and prevent dryness. Niacinamide has anti-inflammatory properties, helping to soothe acne-prone skin and reduce further breakouts.

Our Night Cream is rich in barrier-protecting niacinamide, and also has antibacterial properties which help to stop bacteria from breaking through the skin’s natural protective barrier.

The niacinamide in this product also helps to control the skin’s production of sebum and prevent the glands from creating too much, which can clog the pores and contribute to acne.

Also formulated with upcycled blueberries, which are rich in Vitamin A and a natural source of pro-retinol, to reduce signs of ageing and protect against blue light. Hyaluronic acid hydrates the skin, and rosehip oil works to promote overnight skin regeneration.

Age prevention skin care

We hate to break it to you, but no amount of skincare on the planet can prevent the natural process of ageing. We urge you to view ageing as a privilege, rather than something to be feared.

What skincare – with the right ingredients – can do, however, is help to reduce the signs of ageing, such as fine lines and wrinkles. Hydration is absolutely key when it comes to reducing the visible signs of ageing.

Best skin care products to prevent ageing and wrinkles

Some of the best skin care ingredients to target and prevent wrinkles are: collagen-stimulating ingredients, hyaluronic acid and vitamin C. You’ll find these ingredients across our vegan skincare range at UpCircle.

Cleansing Face Balm with Vitamin E

Working to cleanse the skin and break down and remove stubborn makeup, our bestselling Cleansing Face Balm with Oat Oil helps to support skin elasticity and leaves skin smooth, soft, and nourished.

This product is proudly made with the upcycled finely-ground powder of discarded apricot stones, a natural by-product of the apricot oil industry. You can find out more about the ingredients we upcycle on the site.

Formulated with nourishing ingredients such as shea butter, oat oil and sea buckthorn oil, this balm is also rich in antioxidant vitamin E, which helps to stimulate collagen production and fight the damage caused by free radicals

The amount of collagen naturally produced in the body declines with age. Collagen is known to help maintain the skin’s natural barrier, improve skin elasticity and maintain hydration – all key factors in ageing skin.

Eye Cream with Hyaluronic Acid and Coffee

Gentle on the skin and dermatologically approved, our fan-favourite Eye Cream with Hyaluronic Acid and Coffee works brighten, refresh and renew the undereyes.

Reducing the appearance of dark circles and fine lines, the hyaluronic acid in the formulation not only boosts hydration, but also helps to prevent moisture loss.

Hyaluronic acid is a sugar which holds up to a thousand times its own weight in water and prevents moisture loss by evaporation. Healthy skin is hydrated skin, and those struggling with fine lines and wrinkles should try to use hyaluronic acid rich products where possible.

Added to this formulation is sunflower seed oil, which is a great source of natural ceramides. As ceramides are lipids, they play an essential role in preventing water from escaping from the skin. This locks in the moisture in your skin, helping to keep the skin hydrated, happy and healthy.

Top tip: Use your eye cream both morning and night. This product should be the first part of the moisturising section of your skincare routine.

Organic Face Serum with Coffee Oil

Multi award-winning, our Hydrating Face Serum helps to boost collagen in the skin and keep the skin firm. Formulated with nourishing jojoba, sea buckthorn and rosehip oils, this serum fades dark spots and hyperpigmentation.

Rich in vitamin C to keep the skin hydrated, bright and help to fade pigmentation, this serum is made with coffee oil from leftover coffee grounds, upcycled into a skin-loving product.

Top tip: Apply our natural face serum after moisturiser. As this serum is completely oil based, it works through occlusion – locking in the hydration provided by the moisturiser, forming a protective seal over your skin.
