Which type of UpCircle cleanser should you use?

  • 4 min read

By now, you probably know how important it is to cleanse your skin and ensure you’re taking care of your body’s largest organ. However, we know that it can become confusing trying to figure out which cleanser to use for your skin type, and when to use them in your routine.

Our face and body cleansers can be used on all types of skin, including oily and dry skin. They gently cleanse the skin to remove impurities and dirt, helping soothe redness and acne prone skin. Find out more about the different cleansers in our range.

Types of cleanser

1. Balms to remove makeup

Best for: People with dry skin and sensitive skin, or people who wear makeup.

Texture: Solid or a semi-solid, balm-like consistency that melts when applied to the skin.

Gentle yet nourishing, balm cleansers are ideal for removing makeup and are excellent at removing sunscreen. Enriched with oils and emollients to moisturise and hydrate the skin, cleansing balms break down makeup and products on the skin.

After taking a blueberry-sized amount and massaging between your fingers and onto your face, remove with a warm, damp cloth to reveal a clearer, brighter complexion.

Cleansing balms are best used as the first cleanse to break down make-up, SPF and any oils (including sebum and sweat) on the surface of the skin.

2. Soap bars to cleanse

Best for: People with normal, oily, or acne-prone skin.

Texture: A solid bar form.

With minimal packaging, soap bars still make an impact on your skin and can target specific skin concerns. These formulations still include moisturising ingredients to avoid drying the skin.

Bars are a great waterless option – they’re versatile, travel-friendly and budget-friendly.

3. Face milk to remove remaining oils

Best for: Anyone who struggles with dry or sensitive skin.

Texture: Rich, creamy, or lotion-like consistency when applying to the skin.

A water-based cleanser, face milks are non-foaming and gentle on the skin, helping to moisturise the skin while cleansing.

Face milks typically contain soothing ingredients like chamomile or aloe vera which nourishes the skin while removing any remaining oil, bacteria, and dead skin cells on the skin.

A milk is our top recommendation for someone looking for a quick get-up-and-go cleanse.

A word on double cleansing

We’ve dedicated an entire blog post to double cleansing, but we thought it’s important to highlight while we talk about our cleansers.

The basic principles of double cleansing involve an oil-based first cleanse, using our Cleansing Face Balm, and a water-based second cleanse, using either our Cleansing Face Milk or our Chai Soaps.

The first cleanse breaks down oils and also makeup, pollution, and any other surface layer dirt that has accumulated throughout the day. The second cleanse ensures you remove any remaining oil as well as bacteria and dead skin cells.
