UpCircle was founded on a simple (but ambitious) question: What if we could make skincare and haircare from things that would otherwise go to waste? Circularity - reusing, repurposing, reinventing - isn’t just part of what we do, it’s our everything. Our name. Our mission. Our reason for jumping out of bed in the morning.

Where did the idea come from?

Back in 2015, we had a thought: 

If we're throwing away a cafetière full of coffee grounds every morning, how much is going to waste from coffee shops all over London? 

A lot, as it turns out. 

So we decided to do something about it. We needed a way to give those coffee grounds a new lease of life. And UpCircle was born.

We never wanted to settle for entry-level ethics. Vegan? Natural? Cruelty-free? That’s the baseline - the bare minimum. We wanted to go further. That’s why every UpCircle product is made with upcycled ingredients - from coffee and chai spices, to fruit peels, pulp and stones, to flower petals and stems. Ingredients that have had two lives. The first in someone else’s product. The second in ours.

Are your products vegan and cruelty-free?

We believe all life is sacred. That's why we use only the finest plant-based ingredients, and neither us nor our suppliers test on animals. We are certified vegan by The Vegan Society and are also Leaping Bunny approved - you can see our full animal testing policy here.

Where are your products made?

We're proud to say that almost all of our products are made in the UK. The only exception is our Deodorant which is made in The Netherlands. 

We also manufacture some best-sellers in the US for sale in the US, to minimise the carbon footprint of shipping our stock from the UK to America.

What is your packaging made from?

Our packaging is 99% plastic-free, with aluminium cap options available for the remaining 1%. All of our bottles and jars are made from glass, and most lids are aluminium.

In a few cases, where specific dispensing is needed - like spritzers (toner), pipettes (face oil and peptide serum), or pumps (cleansing milk, hand + body wash and lotion) - a small amount of plastic is used. If you would like these with just an aluminium cap instead, simply select from the dropdown menu on each relevant product page.

Our cleansing bars are packaged only in recyclable cardboard, and our hand cream comes in a fully plastic-free metal tube, including the metal lid.

Is your packaging recyclable?

Yes, the packaging for every UpCircle product is fully recyclable.

Were you previously called Optiat?

Yes! We started life as Optiat. However, we soon came to outgrow that initial vision and as part of our continuous brand development process, we evolved... Our ambition is to have an UpCircle product in every home and we felt this would be most achievable with a more unified and holistic approach. We took our learnings from Optiat and built on them to create UpCircle.

We stand for all round better skincare by elevating leftover natural ingredients and bringing them back to life as beauty products your skin will love.

Did you have a packaging returns scheme?

Yes. For five years, we ran a successful packaging returns scheme for 99% of our range. Customers would purchase refills, send back their empty packaging using a Freepost label, and we’d sterilise and refill them at our London warehouse. Since launching the scheme in 2020, we’ve invested heavily in growing it: hiring dedicated staff, covering return shipping, offering 20% off all refills, and ensuring it was widely accessible and promoted. Refills quickly became a big part of our customer care (30% of all customer care enquiries related to refills) and community - and we’re proud of the impact it’s had.

However, as the scheme grew, so did the challenges. Many returned jars arrived unclean, smashed, with no information, incorrect jars were sent, or were over-packaged using lots of plastic, making safe, timely and sustainable processing increasingly difficult. Being UK-based also limited our ability to scale the system internationally. 

That’s why we’re evolving. We’re currently developing a new at-home refill system using biodegradable, plastic-free pouches - suitable for our full product range. It’s taken time to get the material just right, but we're excited about a promising solution in testing now.

While we’ve had to pause our existing scheme during a move to a new warehouse, we hope to launch our next-generation, global refill option early next year.

Brexit

From 1st January 2021 the UK will have left the EU. We have now opened a warehouse based in Ireland so that we can continue to ship orders to the EU without additional taxes and customs. You can shop through our EU site HERE

Sending a Gift?

We don't include invoices and prices in our orders unless an invoice is needed for customs.  

If you would like to include a gift note in your order let us know before you make your order! We will need to manually place the order for you. Gift notes are hand written and can be a maximum of 25 words. What is the cut off for same-day shipping?

In the majority of cases, if you've ordered by 2pm UK time Monday - Friday, your order will be dispatched the same day.

Can I change my address after the order has been placed?

Due to the high volume of orders being placed at the moment we are unable to change any details of the order. If the order is delivered to the address given we are not responsible for replacing the order or arranging re-delivery. If the order is returned to us you can request a refund minus the shipping and packaging costs and a £10 handling fee. 

My parcel is showing as delivered but I haven't received it.

We're sorry to hear if there has been an issue with your delivery. Please contactcustomercare@upcirclebeauty.comor call us on: 0800 368 9570 for assistance in locating your parcel. Please note that if you contact us after 2 + weeks from the delivery date listed on the tracking we will not be able to provide a replacement for the parcel if lost. 

What do I do if my order is returned to you?

If your order is returned to us due to an incorrect or incomplete address or failure to collect from a delivery office you will be responsible for paying for the return cost as well as an additional shipping fee for us to resend it you. If you request a refund this will be minus our shipping cost and a £3.99 restock fee.

What do I do if there's an item missing from my order?

We're sorry to hear that your parcel has arrived missing an item and we will endeavor to fix the situation as fast as we can! 

If it looks like box has been tampered with, damaged in transit or not fully sealed please keep the box until the issue is resolved as we will need photos sent over as evidence. Without these photos your claim may not be accepted. 

If there are no obvious  issues with the box we would ask you to keep it until the situation is resolved.

Are your shipping materials recyclable?

Everything from our shipping boxes, to our paper tape, to our marketing materials, is fully recyclable. Our fliers and booklets are even made from recycled used coffee cups!

"Reused, repurposed, reloved" is our motto, after all!

Do you include an invoice in the order?

We don't include invoices or any other paperwork in our orders.

Can I add a gift note to the order?

Has Brexit affected shipping costs?

From 1st January 2021 the UK will have left the EU. We now have a dedicated EU site and warehouse located in Ireland so that customers can continue using UpCircle products without additional customs taxes and fees applying. You can shop our EU site HERE. 

If orders are placed through our UK site and shipped from our UK warehouse orders may be subject to VAT and local customs charges payable by the customer. If the delivery is refused due to these charges and the order is returned to us, a refund will be processed minus our shipping and packaging costs and a £10 handling fee. How can I check the products are suitable without purchasing full sized products?

UpCircle was born out of the idea of minimising waste so we created thePamper Kitso you can try before you buy! We would recommend trying the Pamper Kit first to everyone, especially those with sensitive skin. We also recommend to do a patch test on your neck before using any product, if a reaction occurs discontinue use. 

What do I do if I've had a reaction?

If you think you've had an allergic reaction we recommend to stop using the products immediately and seek professional medical advice.

Can I return products if I've had a reaction?

Once opened we are unable to accept products for returns and refunds. To be eligible for a return, the item must be unused and as-new and in the original packaging. How does a subscription work?

We all know the 'Oh no! I'm out of Moisturiser' feeling and we all know it is not one we enjoy! With subscriptions you can stop this from ever happening again by automatically receiving the products however often you need them. To set up a subscription select the 'SUBSCRIBE & SAVE (15%)' option at checkout and follow through the steps! Your chosen products will be sent to you without you ever having to lift a finger! 

How much will I save with my subscription?

You will save 15% compared to the full price of the product! (Please note you can not use other discounts in conjunction with the subscription.) 

Can I cancel my subscription?

We'll be sorry to see you go but you can cancel your subscription at any time through youraccount. Once an order is placed you will not be able to cancel the order but we'll send you a reminder email a few days before so it isn't a surprise. If you want to skip a charge or change the product to a different variant you will also be able to do this through your account page. If you need any help contact customer care! 

Can I skip a delivery?

You can indeed! You can skip a charge and edit the frequency that you receive your order through your account

How do I access my account?

Once you've placed your order you will receive an email to activate your account, from here you will be able to mange subscriptions. You can also access it through thelogin page.

What is Klarna?

Klarna is a payment service provider who take end-to-end responsibility for your payment. They support 60 million consumers worldwide in over 70,000 online stores and are very safe to use.

I have been asked to go to Klarna's site. Is this correct?

If you have chosen to Pay Later (30 days), Klarna will send you an email with further details on how to pay. Your email will contain a link to Klarna where you can settle your payment with your credit or debit card. If you do not pay Klarna within the grace period, late fees may apply.

What are my payment options?

You can pay immediately with debit or credit card (Visa/Mastercard/American Express) or PayPal in the checkout or take advantage of our Pay Later payment option, where you can pay for the goods once you have received them via debit or credit card.

How does Klarna Pay Later work?

After we have sent your order, you will receive an email with payment instructions, telling you when you need to pay by. Typically this is 14 or 30 days after the order is shipped. If you do not have your email to hand, you can contact Klarna's Customer Service here.

What do I need to provide when I make a purchase with Klarna?

You will need to provide your name, address and email address. For some orders you may need to provide your mobile number or date of birth, too. All information will be sent to your email address, including payment reminders and links to your online statements. It's very important that you give us the correct details as otherwise you will not receive the payment information and so be liable for delayed payment fees.

How do I pay for my order with Klarna?

If you have received your goods and want to pay, either log in atwww.klarna.comor click the link from the email Klarna sent you regarding this order. If you cannot log in to pay, contact Klarna's Customer Servicehere.

Why have I not been offered Pay Later?

Although Pay Later is widely promoted, it is not always universally available. The Pay Later method is automatically generated by algorithms that are dependent upon a number of factors including amount of order, the store, previous order history and item availability. Alternatively, you are able to complete your order by paying by credit or debit card at the checkout as normal.

Is my payment information safe?

Payment information is processed securely by Klarna. All transactions take place via connections secured with the latest industry standard security protocols.

What should I do if I want to cancel my order?

Can I request delivery to an address other than my billing address?

Yes. When selecting Klarna as a payment method, you can choose to deliver the goods to an address other than your billing address. At the checkout, you will be given the option to enter a separate delivery address.
