UpCircle’s natural Hair Serum blends sustainably sourced upcycled baobab extract and upcycled fermented organic rice water with science-backed active ingredients which combine to protect, hydrate, and smooth every strand.

It also contains a compound formed from mushroom extract, hyaluronic acid and fructose, and is a natural alternative to regular silicones.

The overall effect of this serum is that it keeps hair vibrant, silky and healthy without weighing it down.

Inspiring, upcycling, uplifting: This Hair Serum is made with baobab extract sourced from baobab seed in Africa; this multifunctional protein delivers 5-in-1 anti-ageing care: repair, strength, UV protection, moisture retention, and nourishment. Much like the baobab tree stores water in arid climates, it helps your hair stay resilient and well-hydrated.

The rice water is upcycled from crushed rice from Italy and is inspired by centuries-old Asian beauty traditions. Rice water is a hydration booster that supports stronger, shinier hair.

Where in the routine can the Hair Serum be used?

This hair serum can be used as leave on and styling product after washing, or anytime for touch ups. The serum is formulated to be left in the hair, so humectants such as hyaluronic acid and glycerine lock in moisture, while the lightweight emollients and conditioning agents smooth and add shine without weighing the hair down.

Will the Hair Serum enhance/ define my curls?

Yes, it helps enhance curl definition by encouraging clumping and reducing frizz, however it is not a strong holding product. Hydrating ingredients attract and hold the moisture, and work in synergy with light oils and cationic conditioning agents to smooth the cuticle. Hence, curls will sit together more neatly and look shinier and more defined.

Can this be used on dry hair to tame the ends/ flyaways?

Of course. A tiny amount warmed between your palms and smoothed over ends or flyaways will tame frizz, adding shine. The emollients and unsaponifiables present in the formula act like a gentle and lightweight polish for the hair surface while the conditioning polymers reduce static and improve manageability.

Does the Hair Serum contain UV Protection for hair?

The Hair Serum contains ingredients that help reduce susceptibility to environmental and UV-related damage, but it is not considered a UV protector for the hair. If you need specific UV defence for the scalp and hair, we recommend using a product that has been tested and labelled for UV protection.

Is this suitable for very curly hair?

Yes. Textured and very curly hair types often benefit from extra moisture and slip, and this serum is the perfect combination of humectants, lightweight emollients and conditioning agents to hydrate, detangle, and reduce frizz. For very coarse or dense Afro hair use a little more product focusing on mid lengths and ends.

Is this suitable for fine hair?

When used sparingly. The formula is designed to not feel greasy, but fine hair can be weighed down by too much product. Start with 1 or 2 drops, warm in your palms and apply to mid lengths and ends only.

Can I use this on towel dried hair and leave it to air dry?

Absolutely. Applied to damp, towel dried hair, the serum will help retain water and seal that hydration thanks to its combination of moisture-attracting and occlusive ingredients. You can leave hair to air dry or diffuse. For the best results apply to damp hair then encourage your natural texture with gentle scrunching or comb through.

How much product should be used?

We recommend to start small and build as needed. As a rough guide: Very short hair: 1 to 2 drops Short fine hair: 1 to 2 drops, Shoulder length fine to medium hair: 2 to 4 drops, Long or very thick hair: 4 to 8 drops. Always warm between the palms of your hands, apply to mid lengths and ends first, then lightly to the surface to tame flyaways.

Does this prevent frizz?

Yes. It helps reduce the frizz by hydrating the hair, smoothing the cuticle and reducing static. The combination of ingredients has been carefully formulated to make your hair look the best. The results are smoother, less reactive to humidity, shinier and more manageable locks.
